Впервые идея организовать нечто подобное пришла в голову GZA/The Genius (наст. имя Гари Грайс), который, как и его кузен RZA/Prince Rakeem (Роберт Диггс), не состоялся как сольный рэппер и искал ближние пути к славе. Они подключили к проекту еще одного двоюродного братишку Ol’ Dirty Bastard (Расселла Джонса) и в 1992 году вошли в первоначальный состав WU–TANG CLAN. Затем RZA удалось собрать в одну группировку друзей детства и просто хороших приятелей, которые жили по соседству на Стэйтен Айленде, и в результате в 1993 году WU–TANG CLAN подписали контракт с лейблом Loud/RCA Records, а хитрый RZA сделал так, чтобы каждый отдельный участник клана также получил контракты с другими лейблами, как самостоятельный рэппер. Он также не последний человек в продюсерской компании RZA Razor Sharp Records. Другие продюсеры семейства и клана WU–TANG с лейбла RZA: 4th Disciple, True Master, RNS и сам RZA. Семейство WU–TANG.В семейство WU–TANG входит множество их сторонних проектов и друзей–рэпперов, которые регулярно появляются на альбомах клана и его членов. Но постоянными из них считаются в основном только:
1. BROOKLYN ZU — близкая к Ol’ Dirty Bastard и WU–TANG CLAN группа (мoжно даже сказать, их бруклинский филиал), состоящая из Lord Buddha Monk, Murdoc, Zu Keeper, Shorty Shit Stain, Cherokee Chief и 12 O’Clock (младшего брата Ol’ Dirty Bastard). Сам Ol’ Dirty также часто заявляет, что он входит в состав BROOKLYN ZU, но все время неофициально, впрочем, как и Shabazz The Disciple и 62th Assassin. ZU MANCHUZ также входят в состав BROOKLYN ZU, но одновременно являются и самостоятельной группой.

2. ZU MANCHUZ — дивизион BROOKLYN ZU. Состоит из Gaugesta Menace, Spiritual Assassin и Drunken Dragon. Пока на их счету только одно гостевое появление на би–сайде сингла Lord Buddha Monk "Gots Like Come On Thru’" под названием "Nitemare On Zu Street", но они планируют в скором времени записать дебютный сингл и диск, которые будет продюсировать Lord Buddha Monk.
3. GRAVEDIGGAZ — один из сайд–проектов RZA вместе с Prince Paul, Fruitkwan и Too Poetic. Группа записала уже три альбома (мы подробно писали о GRAVEDIGGAZ) и имеет солидное количество поклонников. Prince Paul покинул их полтора года назад и сейчас занят сольной карьерой и суперпроектами.

4. SUNZ OF MAN — одна из самых крутых команд из лагеря WU–TANG. Наряду с Killah Priest в нее входят Prodigal Sunn, Hell Razah и 60 Second Assassin. Какое–то время пятым ее участником был Shabazz The Disciple. Недавно у них вышел дебютный альбом, и все идет к тому, что скоро будет написана отдельная статья об этой группе.

5. Shabazz The Disciple — очень популярный бруклинский WU–TANG–"семьянин", появляющийся на записях GRAVEDIGGAZ и SUNZ OF MAN. На его счету уже четыре сольных сингла и один альбом на лейбле Lord Jamar из BRAND NUBIAN Gods Work.

6. KILLARMY — еще одни новички в составе Killa Sin, Shogun Assassin, 9th Prince (он же North Star и Madman), Beretta 9 (a ka Born), Dom Pachino (он же P. R. Terrorist) и Islord, который совсем недавно вернулся из мест не столь отдаленных. Дебютный диск KILLARMY называется "Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars", и на данный момент они записали два сингла "Camouflage Ninjas/Wake Up" и "Wu–Renegades/Clash Of The Titans".

7. Streetlife — один из молодых рэпперов, голос которого часто можно услышать на записях клана. На альбоме "Wu–Tang Forever" он читал на треках "Hellz Wind Staff" и "Deadly Melody", на диске Method Man "Tical" — в "Mr. Sandman" и вместе с Inspectah Deck и U–God — на очень популярном сингле "Semi–Automatic Full Rap Metal Jacket". Сейчас записывается его дебютный альбом.

8. Shyheim — появился на записях WU–TANG очень рано. До этого он записал два "тинейджерских" сольника "Shyheim A. K. A. The Rugged Child" и "The Lost Generation", продюсером которых выступил RZA (который также читал на них). Сейчас вы можете не узнать его голоса (он его сорвал недавно), но он все еще прекрасный поэт и его новый альбом "Me Vida Loca" стоит послушать.

9. ROYAL FAM — это Timbo King (он же King Tymel), Dark Ages и Mighty Jarrett. Timbo был знаком с GZA очень давно, и позже его группа была представлена их продюсером RZA и Ol’ Dirty Bastard. 11. Blue Raspberry — одна из двух основных вокалисток WU–TANG CLAN и GRAVEDIGGAZ. Однако у нее также имеется контракт с Razor Sharp Records и в ближайшее время должен появиться дебютный сольник, богатый на WU–TANG–голоса и продюсируемый RZA.

12. Tekitha — а это как раз вторая вокалистка клана, голос которой прорезался на втором альбоме клана "Wu–Tang Forever" и сольниках Killah Priest, Cappadonna и Ghostface Killah. Единственный ее собственный сингл называется "The Second Coming".
13. Remedy — достаточно свежее лицо в семье. Его первый сольник называется "Word To Live By", и он — белый (да, да, не удивляйтесь). Многие поклонники WU–TANG были ошарашены, увидев этого белого парня (к тому же еще и еврея) в компании с RZA и другими, но это факт — WU–TANG CLAN — никакие не расисты, как много раз сообщалось в прессе.

14. VENOM — об этом женском аналоге WU–TANG CLAN вы еще услышите в этом году. Первоначально они называли себя DEADLY VENOMS, но вынуждены были сменить вывеску, так как уже существовала команда под таким именем. В составе группы 5 рэпперш: Lin Que из Нью–Йорка (бывшая Isis из X–CLAN), N–Tyce из Северной Каролины (имеющая в активе сингл "Hush Hush Tip" с Method Man и RZA), Finesse из Питтсбурга (ex–FINESSE AND SYNQUIS), J–Boo и Champ MC. Их вы могли услышать на последних сольниках Method Man и Kurupt, а их собственный дебютный альбом вышел в начале весны.

15. La The Darkman — тесно связан с Ol’ Dirty Bastard, KILLARMY и Raekwon. Только что выпустил свой новый альбом.

16. Mekeba Mooncycle — еще одна рэпперша, но связанная не с кланом, а с SUNZ OF MAN. Она старшая сестра Prodigal Sunn и была задействована на знаменитом сингле SUNZ OF MAN "We Can’t Be Touched". Также планирует заняться сольной карьерой.

Chi - The greatest attribute of a Shaolin monk/warrior was that he was almost invisible, his body before the invention of firearms was almost impenetrable, neither swords, knives or nunchuckas could penetrate the skin of a monk. This is due the ability of monks to make contact with the earth, in doing so giving them the ability to draw upon energy in its purest form. Drunk Style - During the Tang dynasty Shaolin warriors saved the life of Emperor Li Shimin'.
